It’s not too late to sign up as a volunteer for Burleson’s full-scale tornado disaster drill slated for Wednesday, June 24.

More than 100 volunteers are still needed to role play victims at two separate sites during the full-scale real-time drill. Volunteers must be in good physical condition and at least 13 years old. Volunteers need to be available between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on June 24.

The tornado will impact the Burleson High School campus as well as Hidden Vistas (an undeveloped neighborhood). Both sites will be clearly marked with banners that say “Burleson Disaster Drill In Progress.”

The City of Burleson was selected by the State of Texas to host the full scale scenario. The State only conducts six full-scale drills each year. The scenario is sponsored by the Governor’s Division of Emergency Management in cooperation with the Texas Engineering Extension Service and National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center. The response by all participating agencies will be assessed by the National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center.

Forty-five agencies, including firefighters, law enforcement, school district, emergency medical, and support services are on board to participate.

For more information about the drill or to sign up as a volunteer, call Battalion Chief Brent Batla at Fire Station #1, 817-295-5498, ext. 225. For more information about this release, call the public information office at 817-447-5400, ext. 286
