From the City of Burleson:

The City of Burleson, the Burleson Independent School District, and more than a dozen fire, medical, law enforcement and humanitarian agencies from two counties will learn firsthand what happens when a tornado hits a community.

The City of Burleson has been selected by the State of Texas to host a full scale drill on Wednesday, June 24. The State only conducts six full-scale drills each year. The State is providing the funding for the exercise.

The drill is sponsored by the Governor’s Division of Emergency Management in cooperation with the Texas Engineering Extension Service and National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center.

This is a full-scale real-time drill complete with volunteers who will role play the victims. The tornado will impact a school campus as well as a neighborhood. The response by all participating agencies will be assessed by the National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center.

Volunteers who are interested in role playing victims must be in good physical condition and at least 13 years old.

For more information about the drill or to sign up as a volunteer, call Battalion Chief Brent Batla at Fire Station #1, 817-295-5498, ext. 225. For more information about this release, call the public information office at 817-447-5400, ext. 286.
